Twice now I’ve taken my clutch apart because I thought I had a belt problem. Both times the snap ring that holds the secondary on was out of it’s groove and up against the washer on the retainer bolt. This seems to let the secondary open farther than it is supposed to. The belt is floppy loose and the engagement is terrible. Plus the belt starts to slip way more than it used to at high speed.

Last time I took it apart I cleaned up the groove with a file and turned the snap ring around and it worked great for about 100 miles then I started to notice the same symptoms.

This time I machined a spacer to fill the gap between the snap ring and the washer so even if it tries to come out of the groove it has nowhere to go.

Has anyone else noticed this? Am I missing something? Do I just have a bad snap ring?
